Mishti Meets Speaker, Dodges Resignation Question

Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti

Amid directives to resign over the attack, vandalism, and looting at the Radda Health Center, BNP's reserved women's seat Member of Parliament Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti met with Speaker of the National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. However, she did not clearly state whether she had resigned. She said, "Whatever decision BNP makes, that will be the decision."

Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti went to the Speaker's office at the National Parliament around 1:45 PM on Thursday (October 1). She remained there for about five minutes before leaving the parliament building.

When journalists asked her about her resignation at that time, Mishti avoided the question. Regarding her discussion with the Speaker, she said, "I came to speak with the Speaker, and I spoke with him."

Later, as she was getting into her car, when journalists asked whether she had submitted a resignation letter, she said, "The Speaker summoned me, and I met with him." Asked about the resignation, she said, "Let there be an investigation."

According to sources from the National Parliament and BNP, Mishti met with the Speaker specifically regarding the resignation matter. However, the Speaker's office has not yet issued any official statement.

Earlier, Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had directed Mishti to resign from her position as Member of Parliament over the attack, looting, and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Health Center in Mirpur in the capital. According to relevant sources, this directive was given to her on Wednesday night. She was also informed that if she did not resign quickly, the party would take further strict action.

According to BNP and government sources, the government is maintaining a firm stance on the Radda Health Center incident. Information is being gathered to determine who was involved in the attack and vandalism and who was behind it. Relevant sources also said the investigation has found information pointing to the involvement of several individuals known to be close to Mishti.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said an investigation is ongoing against Mishti over the demolition of the Radda Health Center. He said the investigation is impartial, and that no one would be spared if found to be involved.
