St Martin’s to reopen in November for four months

Press briefing on the occasion of World Tourism Day

The government has planned to reopen the Saint Martin’s Island for tourists from November 1 for four months, allowing only 2,000 individuals to visit the island everyday.

Nasreen Jahan, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, shared this information at a press briefing on the occasion of World Tourism Day at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday, September 25.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin was present at the press briefing.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change are working together about reopening the Saint Martin’s for tourists as it is essential to ensure the safety of visitors and the protection of the island, Nasreen said.

"Hope we will reopen it (Saint Martin’s Island) on November 1, and 2,000 tourists will go there everyday on a limited scale," she said.

“The tourists can travel to the island on only day time in the first two months, and they can stay there at night in the last two months,” the secretary said, adding that the island will remain open till February.
