Bangladesh is marking World Post Day 2026 with a week-long programme aimed at modernising postal services, expanding affordable delivery and transforming the traditional postal network into a technology-driven logistics system.

This year’s theme is “Integrated Postal Network, Unlimited Possibilities.” The Department of Posts has organised activities across the country to highlight the role of postal services in everyday life, business and socioeconomic development.

A discussion meeting was held at the Postal Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Friday morning. The event was chaired by Director General Kazi Asadul Islam, with Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Bilkis Jahan Rimi attending as the chief guest.

As part of the celebrations, regular postal services are being provided at offices across the country on October 9 and 10, excluding savings bank operations. The nationwide Postal Service Week will continue until October 15.

Special letter festivals have been arranged at Cox’s Bazar beach, while universities across the country are hosting letter festivals, philatelic exhibitions and postal service fairs. The initiatives aim to bring postal services closer to the public by making better use of modern technology and an extensive delivery network.

The Bangladesh Post Office is working to evolve beyond its traditional role into an efficient, technology-based and citizen-friendly logistics service provider. The effort reflects the continuing importance of postal networks as commerce and public expectations increasingly demand faster and more accessible delivery services.

World Post Day is observed annually on October 9, marking the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on the same date in 1874. The decision to celebrate the day was taken at the UPU Congress in Tokyo in 1969 to raise awareness of the postal sector’s contribution to social and economic development.
