Government Employees to Get 22 Public Holidays in 2027

The government has announced the public holiday schedule for 2027, setting a total of 29 holidays for government and semi-government offices as well as autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday (November 5).

According to the notification, 15 days have been designated as general holidays and 14 days as holidays by executive order. However, seven of the 29 holidays fall on Fridays or Saturdays, which are weekly holidays. As a result, the effective number of public holidays, excluding weekly holidays, will be 22 days.

Government employees will also be allowed to take up to three optional holidays a year to observe religious festivals of their respective faiths.

In addition, government employees from small ethnic communities working in different parts of the country, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts, will be entitled to two optional holidays to celebrate major social festivals such as Biju and Baisabi.

The 2027 holiday notification has been published on the Ministry of Public Administration's website.
