Patrols, Surveillance to Strengthen Durga Puja Security

Durga Puja Security, BGB Deployment, Bangladesh News,

Around 10,000 members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will be deployed across the country from October 16 to 22 to help ensure the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, according to the border force’s headquarters.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Mahbub Murshed Rahman, director of operations at BGB headquarters, confirmed the deployment on Tuesday, October 13.

He said BGB has adopted a coordinated security plan focusing on regular patrols, intelligence surveillance and close coordination with local administration, police and Puja celebration committees.

The plan also prioritises identifying potential risks in advance, monitoring rumours and communal provocation, and responding quickly to any untoward incident.

According to the official, BGB will provide security assistance at a total of 2,727 Puja mandaps located within eight kilometres of the border and near battalion headquarters.

Steps have also been taken to establish temporary camps where necessary to ensure rapid patrols and support in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

In Dhaka, the deployment and scope of BGB duties will be determined according to government directives and requests from the relevant authorities. The force will remain prepared to coordinate with Dhaka Metropolitan Police and local administration on patrols, security support at key locations and emergency response.

Lieutenant Colonel Rahman said BGB is fully prepared to help ensure that members of the Hindu community can celebrate their religious festival safely and peacefully.
