Actress Pori Moni
Actress Pori Moni has been granted bail after surrendering before a Dhaka court in a case filed over allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation.
On Thursday (November 5), Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman's court granted her bail against a bond of Tk 500 following a hearing. Her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat, also known as Survi, confirmed the matter.
On November 4, the court had cancelled the bail of Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaed Bogdadi Jimi, also known as Jim, and issued arrest warrants against them. The court rejected their lawyers' time petition after Pori Moni failed to appear for a scheduled hearing, citing an allergy-related illness. The complainant had also sought cancellation of their bail.
On March 18, 2024, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Dhaka District Inspector Md Monir Hossain submitted an investigation report, stating that allegations of assault and intimidation against Pori Moni and Jimi had been substantiated. However, the report found no evidence against another accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Bony.
The court framed charges against the accused on January 26 last year and ordered the trial to begin. Businessman Nasir Uddin filed the case on July 6, 2022.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at Savar's Boat Club after midnight on June 9, 2021. Nasir alleged that Pori Moni and her associates entered the club, consumed alcohol and later asked him to provide a bottle of Blue Label liquor free of charge.
The complaint further alleged that after Nasir refused, an argument broke out. At one point, Pori Moni allegedly threw a serving glass and her mobile phone at him, injuring his head and chest. Nasir also accused her and her associates of assaulting him, threatening to kill him and vandalising the club.
Following the incident, Pori Moni filed a separate case at Savar Police Station against Nasir and another person, alleging attempted rape and murder. The case is currently pending before Dhaka's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal No. 9.
