Home Affairs Adviser
The government has taken all-out preparations to ensure the upcoming national election in February 2026 is held in a peaceful, free, and fair manner, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday (November 5, 2025).
Speaking to reporters after a coordination meeting at the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner’s office, the adviser said, “So far, no threats have been detected that could disrupt the election process.”
He stressed that active and conscious voters play a vital role in preventing any attempts to influence or destabilize the polls. “When voters remain alert and aware, any effort to derail the process will fail,” he remarked.
Lt Gen Jahangir Alam also called upon all political parties to act responsibly and help maintain law and order, assuring that coordination among the Election Commission, administration, and law enforcement would keep the situation under control.
Warning against any criminal activities by individuals, he said those released on bail, especially ruling party activists, would face stern action if found involved in unlawful acts.
The adviser further mentioned that rumourmongers and troublemakers might attempt to create unrest but assured that the government has comprehensive security measures in place to counter such moves.
The meeting was attended by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nafisa Arefin, GMP Acting Commissioner Zahid Hossain, Superintendent of Police Dr. Chowdhury Jaber Sadeq, and senior officials from the army, fire service, and other departments.
