Trump Says He Has No Regrets Over Endorsed Candidates

Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has said he is prepared to accept the outcome of the midterm elections, even as Republicans fall behind in the vote count. He has also expressed willingness to work with Democrats to reach agreements on key issues.

Trump made the remarks in an interview with The New York Times on Tuesday night, November 3, while monitoring election results at the White House.

“I am certainly ready to accept the election results. We will work with the Democrats. I look forward to working with them. Hopefully, we can reach some kind of solution,” Trump said.

Asked about the reasons behind the Republicans’ poor performance, Trump pointed to the fact that his own name was not on the ballot. However, he said he had no regrets about endorsing several candidates, including Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Trump was watching the results shortly before 10:30pm on Tuesday when he learned that Graham had lost. Expressing surprise, he said he had just seen the result and described it as unbelievable. He also wondered how the late Senator Lindsey Graham would have performed had he contested the election.

Trump referred to the senator who died in July and suggested that he might have won had he been a candidate.

The president also claimed that Republicans would not have suffered such losses if he himself had been on the ballot.
