PM Calls for Chinese Investment to Boost Mongla-Based Industrialisation

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman speaks

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced plans to develop energy infrastructure stretching from Mongla to the northern region of Bangladesh, aiming to ensure adequate electricity and gas supplies to support economic activities and industrial growth.

He also emphasised the need to increase Chinese investment in Bangladesh and strengthen economic and infrastructure cooperation between the two countries.

The prime minister made the remarks on Thursday (November 5) during a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Dai Hegen, chairman of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), in Mongla, Bagerhat.

Earlier, a memorandum of understanding on economic and infrastructure cooperation was signed between Invest Bangladesh and China's state-owned CRCC in the presence of the prime minister.

Calling for greater Chinese investment, Tarique Rahman urged investors from China to come forward to expand industrialisation and economic activities centred around Mongla.

He said Bangladesh and China wanted to work together, adding that mutual cooperation could open up new opportunities for investment, industrialisation and infrastructure development.

The prime minister also thanked the Chinese delegation for its cooperation in recruiting Bangladeshi workers in Chinese companies operating in the Middle East.

He described the day as important and joyful for Bangladesh and expressed gratitude to Chinese investors for supporting efforts to build a strong economic foundation for the country.

The information was shared by Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Roni.
